The Bombay
Catholic Sabha found in January 1989 is registered under the Bombay Public Trust Act 1950
and has a membership of over 30,000.
The Sabha was formed to promote the social, economic, political, cultural, educational and
general welfare of Christians in particular and the citizens in general.
The Patron of the Sabha is the Archbishop of Bombay. The Sabha has 2 types of membership
viz. 'Life' with a membership fee of Rs. 100/- and an entrance fee of Rs. 10/- and
'Annual' with a membership fee of Rs. 10/- and a onetime entrance fee of Rs. 10/-.
Membership of the Sabha is restricted to Catholics only.
Over the years, the Sabha has grown from strength to strength and the panorama of
services include the 'We Care' Campaign for Kargil, the 'Mumbaites for Orrisa' campaign
for the Cyclone victims, 'Gujarat Earthquake Relief' and the 'Campaign for Communal Harmony'
during the nerve shattering experiences in Gujarat last year. The Bombay Catholic Sabha
(OLGC - Sion Unit) operates as one of the units of the Sabha. This unit since its inception
in 1995 has done some splendid work at the local level particularly pertaining to Social Action,
Civil and Political Activism and Health.
A highlight of the Sion Unit's activities is the Annual Christmas Tree and Dinner for the
Underprivileged held during the Christmas week for the past 3 years.
